The Rotary Club of Amman Citadel signed a twinning agreement with the Rotary Club of Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, during the club's regular meeting held on August 3rd.
The agreement was signed by President Wesam Al-Rashdan, representing the Rotary Club of Amman Citadel, and PP Filomena Aguiar, representing the Rotary Club of Vila Nova de Gaia.
Twinning agreements are a long-standing Rotary tradition that link two clubs from different countries in a lasting relationship of friendship and cooperation. Through this agreement, the two clubs will stay in regular contact, exchange experiences and ideas, share news about their service projects, and explore opportunities to work together on joint initiatives that benefit both communities.
Speaking after the signing, PP Filomena Aguiar expressed her happiness at seeing the agreement come to life, and said she is looking forward to more joint work between the two clubs. She also shared her hope that this partnership becomes the first step towards establishing an Intercountry Committee between Jordan and Portugal, which would bring Rotarians from both countries closer together and open the door for wider cooperation on a national level.
President Wesam Al-Rashdan welcomed the idea and thanked PP Filomena and the Rotary Club of Vila Nova de Gaia for their warm spirit of friendship, noting that the club looks forward to a long and active relationship between the two sides.
Beyond the formal side, twinning is also about people. It gives members of both clubs the chance to get to know each other, to visit and be hosted when travelling, and to see how Rotary works in a different culture and a different part of the world. Amman and Vila Nova de Gaia are separated by thousands of kilometres, yet both clubs share the same values and the same commitment to Service Above Self.
The signing was welcomed by members of the Rotary Club of Amman Citadel, who see it as an important step in strengthening the club's international presence and opening new doors for cooperation and service.
